![]() I would definitely stay here again.Sightseeing at its finest – the Panorama Trail Baden-Baden has the best views to offer. Veggie burger came with potato salad and a side salad and all in it was $20+tip. I ordered a veggie burger (I’m not even a vegetarian), and a slice of peanut butter chocolate pie, and both were off the charts. What really made this place shine for me was the shockingly good cafe. Just popped some earplugs in after my 18 mile day and went right the fuck to bed. They have a sanitization policy and the bathroom in totality was spotless. Second, they currently have a maximum capacity of 6 of 12 beds being filled, it’ll never feel stuffy as long as Mariposa county is still in stage 3 of reopening. First off, It’s cheap ($39, hostel dorm). Lodging: Yosemite Bug Resort (Hostel room) If you have a mask, I’d recommend it but only necessary for this section. Mist Falls from Happy Isles to the Footbridge was a zoo, but it’s been way worse than it was. Maybe 10-20 people at Glacier Point at 10:30AM on Saturday. Saw 3 groups up Four Mile, and my car was the first non overnight parked car at the Four Mile Trailhead at 7:45 AM. All parts of the trail are at least four feet wide and allow ample space for groups to slip by each other. But the lack of crowds made this an incredibly enjoyable day hike, maybe the best one I have ever done in my life.Ĭonditions: Trail is in incredible shape, no overgrowth, slides or anything like that. If you’re not willing to do 18 miles in one day, this is a hike that might be better shelved to 2021. Additionally, I had to walk 3 miles on the valley floor to get back to my car, an inconvenience that could typically be avoided by taking the shuttle from Happy Isles to Camp 4. Due to COVID-19, Mist Trail is eastbound traffic only from the Vernal Fall footbridge to Nevada Falls, so I had to take the John Muir Trail and backtrack east to hit Vernal Falls. This trail is not as viable in 2020 as it will be in the future, however. ![]() This is an absolutely insane day trip, and I fully agree with the ranger that this is probably the best day hike in the park. ![]() You’ll continue on out up through the Illouette Gorge towards the Mist Trail, featuring Nevada Falls and Vernal Fall, which need no introduction. The journey continues on to the lesser known Panorama Trail, which features amazing panoramic views (hence the name) of Half Dome and the Valley on your way to the Illouette Falls, a wonderful and underrated attraction. I took about 30 minutes to just walk around and do a quick meditation. Glacier Point, the tying point between Four Mile and Panorama, is probably the best scenic view in the entire park. The amazing trail design is best felt in the Four Mile section, where the shaded east-facing switchbacks have just enough tree clearing to provide jaw-dropping views of El Capitan/the reverse Tunnel View. The trail feels brilliantly architected from start to finish. Indeed, this hike is extremely comprehensive, giving you extraordinary views of El Capitan, both Upper and Lower Yosemite Falls, Half Dome, Illouette Falls, Half Dome, Nevada Falls and Vernal Fall in just one day hike. After I told her my plan for the day, I asked her what *her* favorite hike is in Yosemite, and she said “the one you’re doing now.” I asked, “really? even better than Half Dome?” And she said that while the cables are exhilarating, there’s nothing to see between Nevada Falls and the dome itself, whereas Four Mile to Happy Isles has beautiful views around every corner. I spoke to this sweet ranger on Glacier Point, who had worked there 40 years. If I could give this trail 6 stars, I would.
